Originally released in late Summer 2016, the Yohji Yamamoto-designed Y-3 Noci High struck a nerve with its mixture of technical performance and military-inspired styling. After the initial Black/Red colorway proved a big seller, the story continues with a winter-ready Black/Silver Metallic/Crystal White version.
Out now at select retailers including Titolo with a €400 price tag, the adidas Y-3 Noci High takes outdoor performance into the high fashion price range. The high-cut, tactical boot silhouette blends breathable soft mesh panels, soft leathers, and molded TPU welds for foot support into a futuristic package – straight out of Blade Runner.
Speaking about the inspiration for the shoe, the Y-3 website said: “The Noci is based on a concept for a rugged space hiker, inspired by imagining what would be needed for space exploration on foot.”
In the bigger picture, the shoe is reflective of the building trend towards ruggedized high tops such as the Nike Special Field AF 1 boot. At the same time, the futuristic, technical fabrics also evoke a fashion designer aesthetic similar to the Riccardo Tisci Nike Air Zoom Legend.
