Nike and Japanese designer Jun Takahashi look back at almost a decade of collaborative work. The UNDERCOVER founder is the driving force behind the Swoosh’s cutting-edge Gyakusou line, fueled by his own interest in running. Now Takahashi challenges both static volume and utility norms for the UNDERCOVER x NIKE SU19 Collection.
“With Nike, we are able to explore technical materials and fabrications that allow for new investigations of UNDERCOVER’s design principles,” says Takahashi. That’s why the collab collection is an ingenious combination of functionality and style.
The capsule includes four garments that all feature Velcro straps for individual adjustments. The long-sleeve top for example can be modified for width, while the t-shirt allows for fine-tuning of the arm holes. This way, wearers can customize the fit of each piece – going from loose and oversized to tight and streamlined. In addition, the clothes allow to carry personal essentials thanks to innovative pockets. “CHAOS BALANCE” text then appears on each garment to finalize the designs with UNDERCOVER’s philosophy of blending raw energy and technical expertise.
In terms of footwear, Takahashis’s very own take on the Nike Daybreak completes the assortment. Featuring an eye-catching heel element as well as UNDERCOVER branding on the midsole, the shoe releases in seven colorways.
