Tyler, The Creator is known to wear many hats: rapper, record producer and head of Odd Future Records; graphic virtuoso and fashion designer with his own Golf Wang label; plus youth culture figurehead backed by a million-strong Wolf Gang. But one thing not everybody knows about the multi-hyphenate is that Tyler can actually hold his own on a skateboard. You can log on to YouTube and see the Grammy-nominated rapper snap ollies over picnic tables while hitting the streets with of-the-moment skate talents. With his background in mind, it makes perfect sense that Converse tapped Tyler in July 2017 to put his artistic touches on the Converse One Star, a skateboarders’ favorite skated by pros like Louie Lopez and Sage Elsesser.
Originally released in 1974, the One Star went from a cold start to a 20-year freeze to a slow simmer in the mid-1990s only to become a hot ticket in the 2010s when Converse released a skateboarding version of the shoe. Adding to the recent heat, Tyler’s interpretation of the One Star, dubbed the “Golf le Fleur*”, sold out within hours in two drops so far. Rendered in saccharine colors such as Jolly Green, Solar Power, and Vanilla, the Le Fleur surrounds the iconic star on the vulcanized low-top’s premium suede upper with a flower in the mode of Tyler’s hit album Flower Boy. The upcoming third drop pictured here is launching January 18 in Jade Lime, Geranium Pink and Bachelor Blue. Blink and you’ll miss it.
