Inspired by Virgil Abloh’s artistic and never seen before take on the infamous Air Jordan 1 silhouette, SNIPES invited 20 lucky winners of an online competition to an instore customizing session last Saturday alongside carefully selected bloggers and a number of social media personalities like Deadstock Sneakerblog (@deadstocksnkrblog), Simon Bus (@simon_bus) from Turnschuh.tv, Joel Caspar (@joelcaspar), Jona Steinig (@jonasteinig) and Kicki Yang Zhang (@kickiyangz) just to name a few.
SNIPES presents The Customization of the Air Jordan 1
The event was taking place at the SNIPES flagship store in the German capital of Berlin, located at famous Alexanderplatz. The guests were allowed to recreate and customize a pair of Nike Air Jordan 1 Mids together with the likes of Tornschuhjette (@tornschuhjette) from Hamburg, local heroes Lars Trucks (@lars_trucks) and Sebastian Hook (@sebastian_hook_tattoo) and last but not least Rene Turrek (@reneturrek) from Osnabrueck to create a real 1-of-1 custom to take home – complete with the now famous industrial zip ties and branded laces.
The store had been modified to have a setup of 5 different tables with five working areas each to make up for a cozy customizing session – each artist had their own separate table, complete with the tools of their individual trade. There was even an additional DIY area allowing the participants to really create something unique on their own without the assistance of one of the customizers.
After finishing their recreation of the afore mentioned footwear icon, the winners could have their picture taken at an instore photo station – and as always a DJ was providing the right beats during the event and tasty finger food and cold beverages were being served in order to make this again a wonderful experience.
