SNIPES Celebrates 20th Anniversary and Reveals Exclusive Collaborations
SNIPES was originally founded in 1998 in Essen, Germany by Sven Voth and the very first physical store opened its doors in April that year so in 2018 it’s time to celebrate 20 years of street cultures stores.
Fun facts: Did you know that Snipes started with their first retail space in Essen in 1998 under the name of „Spike’s“ which a little later had to be changed to „SNIPES“ due to legal issues because the name was already taken and there was no money to buy the rights to the name? So they just quickly changed a few letters and dropped the apostrophe in the name and SNIPES was born.
SNIPES also started selling spraycans, markers and other graff paraphernalia back in the day because of the graffiti background of its originator so that’s why the store walls were featuring pieces in 1998 because it was too expensive to have the walls painted professionally.
SNIPES 20th anniversary
To celebrate their 20 year legacy and also reveal the first drop of their anniversary collaborations, SNIPES invited international guests to its old and history-charged HQ in Rodenkirchen, Cologne, Germany. The “Back in 98” collection is the first one of those releases, featuring exclusive SNIPES products from FILA, Karl Kani and New Era.
Influenced by classic styles you might remember from late 90s R&B and Hip Hop, big logos, powerful colors, oversize cuts finally make a return. Streetwear design authority Karl Kani brings a baggy denim suit to the table, while FILA revives their 2Pac-approved 96 silhouette. And to complete your throwback fit, headwear specialist New Era adds two exclusive snapback caps to the range.

More collab drops will then follow throughout the year. Exclusive sneakers and apparel styles are coming from Nike, adidas Originals, Puma, ASICSTIGER, Puma, Kappa and Stance Socks.
