Every year in October, Cologne hosts probably the largest sneakerhead gathering in Germany at the local edition of Sneakerness. Now the German branch of Europe’s top footwear event teamed up with KangaROOS for a shoe collaboration that will be released at the upcoming Sneakerness on October 14.
With their hometown in mind, the team of Sneakerness took inspiration from the seven different bridges that cross the Rhine river and connect both sides of Cologne. As a result, the shoe’s perforated calfskin leather upper was hit with a very distinctive colorway derived from the bridges’ typical paint: “Kölner Brückengrün”, a greenish tone that was developed in 1929 upon request of Cologne’s then-mayor Konrad Adenauer (who would later become Germany’s first chancellor).
Representing the river is blue pigskin suede, while the rusty ravages of time are express by a brown buckskin leather lining – which is a KangaROOS first by the way! Roman numeral heel embossings represent the seven bridges of Cologne on this runner, which is based on the Ultimate Leather model.
Sneakerness also asked ROOS to remodel the 3M tongue, bring in the signature pocket and make it longer for a crooked look. A white midsole and gum outsole always look dope, so that’s why the two collab partners chose to ground their creative upper with a classic bottom section.
Manufactured in the German town of Münchweiler, the Sneakerness Cologne x KangaROOS “Green Bridges” is strictly limited to only 150 pairs. The box contains a total of 4 sets of laces, all picking up the different colors used on the shoe.
