When Grime superstar Skepta and Nike teamed up in 2017, their collab turned out to be one of the most celebrated kicks of the year. Now the Swoosh brand and the UK artist connect for a reprise of their partnership. While last year’s Air Max 97 SK featured a rather dark overall look, Skepta exchanges the grimey roadman style for a lighter approach this time.
According to the artist himself, this shoe is an homage to the city of Paris. Skepta has a close relationship with the French capital and its street culture, which is why the colors of the French national flag grace the upper.
As the name implies, the Skepta x Nike Air Max 97 BW is a hybrid of two classic 90s AM models. Featuring the Air Max Classic BW upper and Air Max 97 sole unit, the trainers come ready for summer in a clean all-white appearance.
Mismatching color accents of red and blue spice up both the Air units and Swoosh logos however. In addition, the shoe again references the Air Tuned Max 99 by including a honeycomb mesh pattern underneath the smooth leather overlays.
Finally, speckled laces, a partly perforated tongue and “SK Air”-branded insoles complete the collab design.
