While most of our favorite lifestyle sneakers share an original performance background, we tend to generously overlook that as we adopt them for everyday wear. Nevertheless, most of the shoes still feature a sportswear look to at least uphold the impression of being somewhat athletic. With their latest Reebok collab though, UK sneaker retailer size? celebrates the exact opposite. The size x Reebok Bolton “Ree-cut Running Club” is “an ode to the running shoes that never make it past walking speed.”
Rather than highlighting the Bolton’s initial running purpose, the collab draws inspiration fom fashion trends that were around at the time of the model’s 90s release. Beneath the usual suede and leather overlays, a plaid “Madras” pattern shines through. This particular cotton originates from the city of Chennai in India and was a staple in summer clothing throughout that era. It still appears throughout many UK stores today and adds a different kind of retro touch to the silhouette.
While the Bolton uses Hexalite cushioning within an EVA midsole, size’s alternative “Reebok Running Club” doesn’t require you to break much of a sweat. Or as they put it: “We don’t keep track of your fastest mile. We’re more likely to judge you on how fast you can get to the bar and back.”
DID YOU KNOW?
Not only does the Union Jack found on many Reebok Classic items allude to the brand’s British roots, but the Bolton sneaker is also named after the city where Reebok was founded. The company name comes from a whole different origin though. Co-founder Joe Foster found it in a South African dictionary he won in a running race as a child. “Reebok” is the Afrikaans name for the grey rehbok, a species of Antelope.
