A Closer Look at the size? x Nike SHOX TL “Viotech”
For their latest joint project with Nike, UK retailer size? picked a sneaker that’s probably not the first choice one everyone’s collab silhouette list. SHOX technology recently made a comeback in form of the R4, catering to tech-wear afficionados and fans of rather outlandish styles. With the size x Nike SHOX TL Viotech, we’re now getting a sneaker that merges this very appeal with a well-tried color palette.
Nike actually started developing SHOX technology as early as 1984, so even before the first Air Max arrived in stores. It combines highly resilient PU foam columns, sandwiched between two solid TPU plates for unparalleled energy return. Resulting in a truly unique look, shoes like the SHOX TL are a prime example of early 2000s performance sneakers that were ahead of their time.
For their very own take on the TL, size? not only brings the model back from 2003. The design team also incorporates influences from sneaker culture by applying the famous “Viotech” colorway to the trainer. Best known from the Dunk Low and of course the Air Max 1 by atmos, the combination of muted grey and brown tones with striking Purple accents works beautifully on the SHOX TL. Mismatched red and blue Swooshes on the inner sides add further design highlights. Finally, a gum outsole references the beforementioned atmos Air Max 1 and rounds things off.
DID YOU KNOW?
The creative force behind SHOX technology is none other than Bruce Kilgore. Less known than the likes of Tinker Hatfield, Kilgore is the designer of a true cult classic: the Air Force 1. In addition, he also left his footprints in the illustrious Jumpman lineage as he created the Air Jordan 2 together with Peter Moore.
