2020 not only marks a new decade in sneaker culture that we already are excited to see unfold. Coincidentally, it is also the 20th anniversary of sneaker retailer size? which started all the way back in the year 2000. To make this jubilee a special one, the team partnered with a bunch of brands to release some exclusive sneakers.
From 2000 to 2020
Before size? evolved into one of European’s leading sneaker retailers with stores all over the continent, it started pretty humble. In 2000, the first three stores opened their doors in London, Manchester and Brighton. Led by dedicated folks from the sneaker community, they soon not only expanded with stores in 19 territories. In addition, they teamed up with brands from Nike to adidas to New Balance and delivered some widely celebrated collab projects. Now the sneaker dealer enlisted the most acclaimed sneaker labels for a total of 22 exclusive releases. adidas Originals, Nike, New Balance, Reebok, VANS, PUMA, Converse and Saucony all contributed special projects that will hit the shelves of size? stores soon.
22 Birthday Presents
The line-up doesn’t only include head-turning retros and exclusive colorways, but also full-fledged collabs that add to the retailer’s illustrious portfolio. After already celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Air Max 95 with the “Wet Paint Pack” in 2005, size? and the Swoosh brand now reconnect for the shoe’s 25th birthday. Named “25 Years of size?”, they took inspiration from their past Nike collabs and applied them to the mulitple panels of the AM95. Another jubliarian is the adidas Superstar, which debuted in 1970. That’s why the Superstar “50/20” celebrates both the anniversaries of size? and adidas with a special sneaker. Other shoes from the collection allude to characteristics of the retailer’s country of origin – the United Kingdom. Football or punk culture influence further designs in the diverse line-up of releases.
Past, Present & Future
Before getting into their birthday party, size? also took a look back at the past 20 years. A massive two-day exhibition at White Rabbit Studios showcased the past, present and future of the retailer, displaying archive projects that brought together a shared love of footwear and the culture that surrounds it.
