As a general theme for several of their past collabs, PUMA has been embracing retro culture to the fullest. More precicesly, the German sportswear brand actually teamed up with some of the biggest names that stand for timeless treasures of the past. For their latest endeavor, they now present the Rubik’s x PUMA Collection.
Rubik’s of course is the company behind the world famous Rubik’s Cube. Invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Ernő Rubik, the 3-D combination puzzle is a prime example of 80s pop culture. The standard version features six faces with 9 colored boxes on each side. The player then uses an internal pivot mechanism in order for each face to have only one color.
The standard Rubik’s Cube colors of white, red, blue, orange, green, and yellow now appear on the pieces in PUMA’s collab collection. It features sneakers (including the premiere of the RS-X3), sweats and tees for both adults and kids. In addition, personalization options will be available shortly after launch.
DID YOU KNOW?
As of 2009, the Rubik’s Cube sold over 350 million times worldwide and is widely considered to be the world’s best-selling toy. There’s even a World Cube Association which organizes competitions and also recognizes world records in speedcubing.
