What could be more amazing than a trip to LA right when the worst season of the year kicks in? Obviously – nothing. We were honored to be among the chosen few crews to be invited by PUMA to witness the ComplexCon event at Long Beach. It’s one of the biggest sneaker culture conventions on the globe and revolves around everything we like. To be more precise, you’ll find everything from streetwear, music and arts to sports and food here. PUMA was one of the sponsors of the event and hosted a huge booth to showcase current projects. This of course included the PUMA Rider Pack – but more to that later.
Warming up for the big event
Right upon arrival in LA we first enjoyed a healthy welcome dinner with the PUMA crew and the other invitees including the likes of Deadstock Sneakerblog, Praise Mag, Overkill Shop, asphaltgold, Verband Botanischer Gärten, Summer Cem or Masha Medusa. Together with this illustrious crew we headed straight to the opening party of the ComplexCon. PUMA hosted the gig which included acts like Redman and the Lords of the Underground – a real treat for fans of Golden Era hip hop.
On the next day, we headed to the Long Beach Convention Center and checked out everything going on at ComplexCon. Lots of brands exhibited, such as Chinatown Market, Champion or Billionaire Boys Club and even more mainstream brands like Canon. The presence of legendary artist Takashi Murakami was evident at all times, as he not only provided the events main theme but also roamed the venue himself.
One of the highlights was of course the FUTRO LAND booth by PUMA. It housed a retro gaming station with lots of throwback goodies as prizes among other things. On the product side, the booth focused on Chinatown Market and the Rider Pack. The latter consists of the Fast Rider, Style Rider and Future Rider and brings back retro vibes with the classic OG Fast Rider and the other two re-imagined and more contemporary versions. The PUMA Rider Pack was also the main focus for the other activities in LA.
Life’s a beach
In fact, we had the opportunity to explore a few great spots in LA on the second day. We had an unforgettable content creation session with photographer @memofiliz at Venice Beach, where hung out at the iconic skatepark and a basketball court. Afterwards we headed to Santa Monica Pier to enjoy an incredible Cali sunset and end our journey with a beautiful backdrop. Thanks to PUMA for this incredible opportunity and the warm company on this trip!
