PUMA Brings Back the 90s with These Two CELL Sneakers
Last year, PUMA reintroduced their CELL technology with a series of late 90s retros. Now the German athletic brand again takes it back to 1998 for the return of the CELL Alien OG. On top of that, PUMA also presents a brand-new women’s style with the CELL Stellar.
Like many of today’s popular retros, the Alien OG originally launched as a running sneaker at the very end of the past millenium. And as it’s the case with many of those styles, the shoe’s performance background now merges into an embodiment of contemporary street style. But similar to the time of its inital release, the Alien OG still looks slightly extraterrestrial. Next to its dynamic upper pattern and a material mix of breathable mesh with suede and synthetic leather overlays, the shoe’s original colorway is a definite eye-catcher. While the main color combo of white and blue represents classic sports style, vibrant green accents add to the uniquess. Especially on the translucent CELL bubble, the “Lime Punch” hits perfectly pick up the model’s alien theme. And following to this retro make-up, several new modern interpretations on the sneaker are slated to follow later this year.
The CELL Stellar explores a different realm of outer space, elevating the Alien with a distinct feminine note. Both the bulky look and hypnotic layer arrangement in black and white channel typical 90s aesthetics. But characteristic details like the metallic heel branding and bright pink CELL bubble give the shoe an individual appearance guaranteed to turn heads.
For the launch of both CELL models, PUMA teamed up with actress, TV host and musician Bonnie Strange as well as YouTube personality Krappi Whatelse. Titled #BEAMUP, the campaign in Partnership with Zalando puts a focus on the comfy designs which makes wearers feel almost weightless.
