Polar Skate Co. and Nike SB Collaborate on Two Sneakers
Next to absurdly limited in-house collabs like the recent “LA to Chicago” Air Jordan 1, Nike SB still teams up with independent skate brands every now and then. The Polar Skate Co x Nike SB collection features two sneakers designed by the Swedish label.
Polar was established back in 2010 by Pontus Alv and quickly gained acclaim not only within skate circles but also among street fashion connoisseurs. That’s thanks to the brand’s unique and design language style, which combines Scandinavian simplicity with art and pop cultural innuendos.
For one thing, the Polar team chose the Air Trainer 1 as a collab silhouette. Designed by Tinker Hatfield and originally released in 1987, Nike‘s cross-training shoe receives a sleek colorway. It shows a white base with black suede and blue smooth leather overlays. A gum outsole, Polar branding on the midfoot strap and the special Polar SB logo on the tongue round off the sneaker. In addition, there’s a tried-and-true skate silhouette to complete the collaboration. The Blazer Low features a subtle light grey suede upper, while the lateral Swoosh and stitched “Polar” heel branding add contrasts in Deep Royal Blue.
