Nike Reveals an Unreleased PlayStation x Air Force 1 Sample
Back in 2006, Nike produced one of their most rare special editions to date. In order to celebrate the launch of the PS3, only 150 pairs of the PlayStation x Nike Air Force 1 made their way into the hands of a select few. Among those were SONY employees, sweepstake winners and NBA 07: The Life Vol 2 cover star Kobe Bryant. Another super-limited release in 2009 with only 50 pairs available hardly counts as a second chance at getting a pair.
In a recent edition of “Inside The Vault“, Nike took a look back at the origins of this sneaker. Here the brand reveals that the initial samples of the shoe featured a smooth leather upper. Instead of that, patent leather eventually made the sneakers shine and purple laces replaced the red ones. A striking fade from light blue to purple on the heels and stitched PlayStation logos then finished of the original design of this coveted Air Force 1.
Unfortunately, all of these smooth leather samples from 2006 were destroyed. But at the end of the “Inside The Vault” segment, Nike announces that the collaborations with SONY continue in 2018.
We already saw a Playstation model of Paul George’s PG2 signature sneaker earlier this year. “Fans of both brands can only imagine what comes next”, the short text concludes. Maybe a wider re-release of the PlayStation x Nike Air Force 1 is on the way? Until we hear more about this, check out the pics of both versions below.
