Why Nike Won’t Release Any New Sneakers on Air Max Day 2019
Usually, Air Max Day is a date packed with special sneaker releases ever since its introduction back in 2014. But this year, Nike takes a different path. Dedicated to the power of local support, the Give Fresh Air campaign takes place on March 26 of this year.
The brand issued a statement to explain the new initiative in detail:
“With the launch of the Air Max 1 in 1987, a revolution began. In the years since, Nike and “Air” have become synonymous while expanding its loyal following. Although March 26, 1987, marks the beginning of the epic Air Max journey, this Air Max Day launches a new chapter focused on taking action. We know that change happens when people come together.
Give Fresh Air is a rally cry to unify sneaker culture around a shared passion to ignite change. Nike and our partners will create ways to give “Air” to support local organizations and champion the power of community. Since its inception in 2014, Nike’s Air Max Day has served as a celebration of all things Air — but unlike years past, 2019’s iteration of Air Max Day will not include any new releases.”
In past years, sneakers like the Sean Wotherspoon Air Max 1/97 or the atmos Air Max 1 “Elephant” reissue launched on Air Max Day. The designs from the Nike On Air design contest initially were up next for 2019, but should now drop at a later date. On the other hand, we’re excited to see what exactly Nike has planned for the campaign.
