While fashion trends lean towards chunky, heavy-looking silhouettes these days, the actual performance world continues to take a different route. As running shoes are getting more and more lightweight, sole technology is all about not only perfecting the cushioning but also energy return. And the innovators, chemists, engineers and designers at Nike got together to work on a new foam material to ensure all that at a outstanding level of durability. Meet the Nike Epic React Flyknit, the brand’s latest innovation to unite the feats modern runners need in one product. Already put to use in the Hyperdunk 2017 and Jordan Super.Fly 2017 basketball models, Nike React is a new form of tooling that’s cut from one piece of foam.
The sole unit is computer-engineered to precisely add cushioning and support in the spots where runners need it – and eliminate material wherever it’s not absolutely necessary to reduce weight. As a result, the sole features a unique pattern with deeper parts for more cushioning and shallow areas for more firmness. Rubber segments in the forefoot and heel section of the one-piece React Foam sole add traction and enhance the materials durability.
On the upper, Nike banks on the well-tried Flyknit material. Providing a snug fit, the one-piece Flyknit bootie on the Epic React provides support, flexibility and breathability in the spots where runners need it. For the product launch, the new model seems to be available on two colorways of either Blue or White. Swoosh branding is kept rather simple, therefore a royal blue heel piece and yellow pull tab add some colorful accents to both iterations.
