When it comes to Nike’s Air Max models, sneakerheads almost agree in unison that it’s always better to stick to the OGs. From the Air Max 1 to the 180 to basically all of the models from 90 to 97, the most beloved models stem from the golden era of running sneakers. That’s why the folks from Beaverton took some inspiration from their rich archives when they went to the drawing board in order to design a brand-new Air Max for 2018. So without further ado, here are 8 reasons why the Air Max 270 could be a hit this year. [Title Image via Sneaker News]
1. First Lifestyle Air Unit
All previous Air Max styles featured Air cushioning that was originally intended for performance purposes. The Air Max 270 is the first to sit on a 100-percent lifestyle Air unit, which provides the same rigor as the performance version but also is intended for everday wear.
2. Retro DNA
Despite its futuristic look, the Air Max 270 heavily builds on the classic designs of the Air Max 93 and Air Max 180.
3. Living up to the name
“270” actually was a nickname that Nike designers gave the Air Max 93. It is based on the 270 degrees of visibility in the Air unit.
4. Tallest Max Air Heel Unit
The Max Air Heel Unit in the back of the Air Max 270 is 32 mm tall!
5. Maximum comfort
The Air Max 270 unit height offers the biggest heel volume displacement for maximum air cushion comfort.
6. KD rocked it first
Nike athlete Kevin Durant already had the chance to test the Air Max 270 on November 22 – before the showdown with his former OKC Thunder team mates. This required for Nike to make the largest AM 270: a size 18.
7. Style Variety
The 270 Max Air unit will be featured on the Air Max itself, but a whole lot of different silhouettes in 2018 – and in many different colors on top of that.
8. Classic colorways
As mentioned before, the design of retro Nike Air Max styles heavily influenced the AM 270. That’s why it will also release in fan-favorite make-ups like the Air Max 93-inspired “Teal” version that launches on Air Max Day 2018.
Release Details – Air Max 270
The first version of the Air Max 270 that will be available via Nike SNKRS and select retailers starting February 1, 2018 is the Light Bone / Hot Punch colorway. It retails for $150 USD.
