There are few things that share the universal acclaim of Nike‘s famous Air Force 1. As we already pointed out in one of our print cover stories, the shoe is a true “cultural chameleon”. Now the silhouette returns in one of its most memorable colorways with the Nike Air Force 1 Low Retro “Friday”.
The nickname alludes to the movie of the 1995 movie which starrs Ice Cube and Chris Tucker in the leading roles. It follows the stoner duo spend a typical Friday in South Central LA. And even though Ice Cube’s character Craig Jones just lost his job, his footwear game is still on point thanks to a pair of classic AF1s. The version in black with a white Swoosh even appears on the famous movie poster that shows Cube and Tucker kicking it on the porch.
Nike brings back the classic shoe with a couple of slight updates. In contrast to the original, the new version uses a white instead of a black tongue tag. The white Swoosh received a second layer in addition, as a black version appears underneath. Other than that, the shoe keeps its simple and timeless appeal that works in 2019 just like it did in 1995. Paying homage to both the sneaker and movie, the folks at Overkill created a throwback photo series which you can check out below.
