Last year, BAPE and Human Made founder Nigo reunited with longtime friend Pharrell Williams for a set of Hu NMDs. Now the legendary designer’s new label teams up with the Three Stripes brand again. The Human Made x adidas Stan Smith sees Nigo’s signature style update a classic silhoutte from the sportswear giant.
One of the characteristic traits of the Japanese streetwear luminary’s brand is a distinct love for Americana aesthetics. This lines up with the status of the Stan Smith as the signature shoe of the epynomous US tennis player. Staying true to its core DNA, the adidas staple comes in the classic white colorway with green accents. The subtle leather perforations that usually form the Three Stripes on the sidewalls were rearranged as Human Made’s heart logo. The unmistakable adidas branding still appears on the inner sides of the sneaker though, where small heart-shaped perforations assemble in three straight lines and reveal a red underlay.
Apart from that, the tongue features Mr Smith’s stylized face while a Trefoil logo and embossed Stan Smith lettering on the heels finalize the design. The shoe uses premium leather on the uppers, a goat leather lining and sits atop an off-white rubber cupsole.
DID YOU KNOW?
After selling A Bathing Ape in 2011, Nigo founded Human Made as a vintage-inspired clothing brand. His main focus is on American work wear – and he takes the task of delivering sophisticacted homage pieces very seriously. In fact, Nigo doesn’t use photographs as templates and instead chooses to rearrange items from his extensive personal collection.
