With strong roots in skateboarding, California-based brand Stance has been bringing attitude and style to previously “boring” products such as socks and underwear. For its latest collabo, Stance is partnering up with New Balance for the “First of All” collection celebrating the heritage of both brands with themed versions of the M997 and ML1978 styles and matching socks.

Headed for release on June 10, the“First of All” drop consists of two kits inspired by the hometowns of both brands – Boston and San Clemente – with illustrations from Boston-based artist Matthew Zaremba and Southern California-based artist Mark Oblow.

The “First of All” Boston kit features the iconic New Balance 997 model in copper rose and tan. The color scheme was inspired by the city’s traditional brownstone architecture, echoed by a cobblestone pattern debossing on the leather accents. The matching sock is a Stance 144 Needle crew made from premium cotton with cross-branding from both labels.

The “First of All” San Clemente kit opts for a new silhouette instead of a classic, namely the newly introduced New Balance 1978 silhouette in slate blue and tan pig suede (also check out our “Making of” interview about the genesis of the 1978). The matching sock is a Stance 144 Needle crew sock with athletic stripes to represent the surf culture in the California town where category-changers Stance were founded seven years ago.

For added storytelling, the insoles of both shoes are imprinted with map graphics and the coordinates of their respective headquarters. All of the shoes and socks in the “First of All” kits are Made in the USA and the shoes and socks sell together in special boxes.

The New Balance x Stance – “First of All” collection will launch on June 10 at finer retailers including 43einhalb. For more info on New Balance and Stance, keep it locked to @newbalance and @stancesocks on Instagram, hashtags #NewBalancexStance, #TheArtoftheKit, #StanceAnthem.
