Alongside the 1500 and 574, the 997 probably ranks high in every New Balance connoisseur’s list of favorites. Originally released in 1990, this particular model features the Boston brand’s qualities rolled into one pair of trainers. Subtle style. A perfect wedge shape. And of course that premium “Made in USA” quality.
The latter aspect also justifies the rather premium price point of currently around about 220 €. But at the same time, it may keep NB novices from discovering this all-time classic in the first place. That’s about to change now with the New Balance 997H.
Inspired by the original 997, the 997H is a modernized version that has been reworked for the current times. Equipped with a high-grade synthetic leather upper, the shoe features a GCEVA construction and lightweight outsoles. Even though a new tooling replaces the usual ENCAP midsole, the 997H also bears a striking resemblance to the classic it is based on. And the price point of just under 90 € is almost unbeatable.
That’s why the sneaker is interesting for young heads and OGs alike. While the rookies receive a stylish runner that’s easy on the wallet, long-time fans can add some variation to their rotation that still embodies classic NB style.
