For many sneakers that achieved legendary status, there’s a certain personality that is strongly connected with them. Most of the time, we’re talking about athletes or artists. But for shoes from the New Balance 99X series, it’s an inconspicuous business man from California: Steve Jobs. To pay tribute to the Apple co-founder’s love for the silhouette, 43einhalb dubbed the latest release from the Boston brand the New Balance 992 “One More Thing” Pack.
For those who never watched an Apple keynote (and die-hard Android users), here’s some context. In his presentations for Apple, Jobs would start with presenting sales figures and product reviews from the past year. Only at the very end, the tech-visionary would introduce the actual highlight product by saying “But there’s one more thing.”
While it’s not the official name for this selection of 992s, the folks over at 43einhalb hit the nail on the head with their nickname. And to present the four upcoming colorways in the most fitting way possible, the German sneaker store created a matching editorial. As you can see, the “Made In US” silhouette perfectly blends into a still life settings with the clean designs from Cupertino. But in addition to the subtle iterations in Grey and Tan, there also are two pretty colorful versions – reminding of the iMac “flavours” from the late 90s and Apple’s classic rainbow logo.
DID YOU KNOW?
Legend has it that Steve Jobs played a part in the 99X design process. According to New Balance chairman Jim Davis, Jobs sent a rough sketch of his vision for a “more sporty and hip” to the brand – which served as the base for the series.
