Tritium is also known as Hydrogen-3 and is a radioactive isotope. It’s rare, it’s what keeps your watch glowing at night. And it’s the eponym of the New Balance 247v2 Tritium Pack, which introduces a second version of the lifestyle runner. The Boston brand launched the 247 in early 2017 as a minimalist lifestyle runner that smoothly bridged the gap between future tech and the type of running heritage the brand has long been known for.
The 247 model incorporates multiple design elements of classic New Balance trainers such as the 574, 576, 998 or 1300. A sock construction and a single-piece toebox then complete the shoe with a modernist approach. And with various packs dropped in the last one and a half years, it’s safe to say that it’s here to stay as a future classic.
The Tritium pack is another step towards this goal as it introduces a second version of the model. It features an updated midsole, which is a more aggressive evolution of the first version. The proportions are blown up and the rear and midfoot area are more flared. At the same time, it’s still inspired by the classic Abzorb or Encap midsoles known from the New Balance classics
We think it’s great to see how the Boston brand evolves a contemporary model and manages to keep innovating without losing touch with its heritage.
