Over the last few years, New Balance has not only been blurring the lines between performance and lifestyle, they’ve also created modernized and updated versions of classics. The “Reengineered” program “translates” classic running silhouettes and reimagines them with streamlined uppers for everyday use. These models are bridging the gap between the past and the future. The ML2016 that came last year in January was a new lifestyle model, and one with which the Boston brand broke away from its traditional numbering system – where the numbers were based purely on performance and price metrics.
The 247 is also new and the name refers to the fact that you can wear the urban lifestyle runner in any environment. It’s comfortable, versatile and looks as good in a formal setting as in a casual one. What’s more, the 247 was inspired by four classic New Balance icons. It has design elements taken from the 574, 576, 998 and 1300 models. The Luxe pack pictured here presents the new model in one sophisticated package, and the luxury feel is owed to the full-grain premium leather and stretch synthetic nubuck sock construction.
Are we witnessing the birth of a new classic? One thing is certain; this Luxe pack has everything New Balance stands for based on an entirely new and fully contemporary model – premium materials, craftsmanship, sophistication and comfort. We’re very curious to see this model in future iterations. There’s much more to come, so much we know.
