We recently introduced you to the newly established lifestyle category of Japanese athletic company Mizuno and its Wave Rider 1 silhouette. The standout aspect of this category is the “Kazoku”, a conglomerate of like-minded sneaker boutiques and brands from around the world that will collaborate with Mizuno on several limited editions. Now it’s time to take a look at the very first “Kazoku” project, for which the sportswear brand teamed up with fellow Japanese powerhouse mita sneakers.
Under the motto of “No Borders”, the established sneaker store uses the Wave Rider 1 to paint a picture of transboundary running influences. The deep blue upper is made from a mix of nylon and pigskin nubuck, drawing its inspirations from the famous blue track of Berlin’s Olympic Stadium. In contrast to that, a grey tone was used on the sole unit to symbolize Japan’s asphalt roads. To connect these two different running grounds, a white line on the vamp alludes to the dividing lines on both a road and a running track.
To highlight the shoe’s technology with a little aesthetic pop, the Wave Rider 1’s signature Wave Plate cushioning is done in a glow-in-the-dark-yellow. Last but not least, reflective details hit the shoe’s piping and lace keepers to light up this first Kazoku collab even more.
