As you all know, Le Coq Sportif is not the kind of brand to engage in collaborations too often. But when the French athletic mainstays do, it’s bound to be special. For 2017, Le Coq Sportif enlists Mita Sneakers for a special edition of the R 921 model – the brand’s first-ever hybrid shoe.
Le Coq Sportif has been working with the Tokyo-based shoe store since 2014. The Le Coq Sportif x Mita Sneakers R 921 continues the tradition with a sneaker designed in Tokyo.
Best of two classics
From a technical standpoint, the R 921 is a hybrid of two Le Coq Sportif classics. It fuses together the LCS R 1000 (upper) and the LCS R XVI (sole and heel). The heavily 1980s and 1990s-inspired shoe also includes the Dynactif shock absorber system, which celebrated its 25th anniversary last year.
As for the colorway, the red, blue, green, and beige accents on the navy upper draw on the archive EUREKA shoe. It was co-created with Shigeyuki Kunii, creative director for Mita Sneakers.
For added breathability, the R 921 packs Aérotop Open Mesh technology to increase ventilation. The sole features the words “Tokyo Kai” in Kanji lettering and the shoe also bears the label “Tokyo Custom Made”.
The Le Coq Sportif x Mita Sneakers R 921 is available as a limited edition at colette in France, Sneakers76 in Italy, 24Kilates in Spain, Hanon in the UK, and Titolo in Switzerland with a €110 price tag.
