For their Heritage Pack, Lacoste takes us through the archives to bring back three classic silhouettes. The storied court shoes perfectly mirror the different eras that the French athletic brand left their mark in. Combining subtle base tones and fresh green accents, the G80, V-Ultra and René mirror Lacoste’s characteristic style and its evolution throughout half a century.
Serving as the collection’s highlight piece is the G80, a sneaker designed for professional tennis players that debuted back in 1987. It features a white mesh upper with off-white leather overlays, providing the perfect mix of breathability and stability. Accents of green appear on the Croco logo as well as the lace tag, which also highlights the model’s hardcourt heritage. “Lacoste Tennis” branding on the tongue label then finalizes this 80s classic.
A little more recent is the original launch of the V-Ultra. The 00s model represents the past decade and catches the eye with its bulky build. Green hits not only spice up the white leather upper, but also add color accents to the sole unit. Last but not least, the René takes it all the way back to 1963. As a representative of sneaker design’s early stages, the model doesn’t need much more than a cream-colored canvas upper and a green outsole to channel the unmistakable Lacoste steez.
DID YOU KNOW?
The Lacoste Crocodile has its origins in a bet that occured in 1923. René Lacoste’s then-team captain offered to buy him a fancy crocodile skin suitcase they spotted in a store’s window display – if René won his next match. Curiously enough, the tennis legend didn’t win. But thanks to a newspaper article by journalist George Carens who overheard the anecdote, the new nickname stuck with René and eventually inspired his brand’s logo.
