“What if a ninja wore sneakers?” – This pretty specific question triggered the latest joint project between Tokyo-based sneaker store Kicks Lab and ASICS. Ninjas – also known as “Shinobi” – were mercenaries or covert agents in feudal Japan, known for their excellent espionage skills.
Of course the lightweight construction and signature GEL cushioning of the GEL-LYTE III serve as the perfect kind of footwear for sneaking and creeping when the ninja goes on a secret mission. Disguised in a black, white and grey color combination, the shoe’s suede upper assumes a discreet look made to hide in the shadows.
As a special detail, Kicks Lab covered the co-branded insoles and the translucent outsoles with Japanese characters. Some of them were specifically designed by the store and reference the secret codes that ninjas used for encrypted communication.
