Finnish ahtletic brand Karhu has a habit of incorporating the unique nature, design and sports history of heir home country into sneaker designs. Their latest release is no exception and puts a focus on Finland’s capital of Helsinki. Taking inspiration from the city’s new network of subway stations, here’s the Karhu Fusion 2.0 Metro Pack.
With the Fusion 2.0, the brand chooses one of their most famous models. While the shoe often assumes earthy tones that nod to Scandinavian nature, it now receives more modernistic aesthetics. The inspiration is the new Länsimetro line which connects central Helsinki with the neighboring city of Espoo. Different architects designed 8 new stations on that route, with Matinkylä being a favorite of the Karhu folks.
It features a ceiling of aluminum sheets painted in different shades of white which represent frost and summer clouds. To translate this design to the Fusion 2.0, Karhu applied various kinds of technical mesh to the upper. White leather overlays as well as accents in orange and hues of blue finish the two sneakers with references to the Länsimetro CI.

Next to the new metro system, Helsinki also is home to Päijännetunneli – the longest water tunnel in the world. Thanks to this tunnel, the Finnish capital’s tap water quality is so high that other countries import it.
