Fresh on the heels of the Mizuno Wave Rider 1 OG, the Japanese brand unveils the third Kazoku release. This time around, Mizuno teamed up with Berlin online publication Highsnobiety for a different approach on the their retro runner.
First released in 1998, the Wave Rider 1 was used as the base for the two previous Mizuno releases. For this collab though, the trainers receive an altercation that calls for the “Phoenix” nickname. Just like the mythical bird, the Wave Rider rose from the ashes after a being absent from the scene for quite some time. This eternal cycle symbolizes infinity and alludes the Mizuno model’s timeless appeal.
To celebrate the shoe’s return, its upper received a premium makeover with military nylon mesh, nubuck, suede, and full grain leather. While the clean white midsole merges into overlays in various grey tones, bold red accents capture the phoenix theme.
In contrast to that a soft touch of pastel blue graces the underside of the tongue, outsole and runbird logo on the toe box. Embossed Highsnobiety logos on the tongue and back and a branded heel tab complete this collab.
