How time flies! Italian athletic brand Diadora goes into its 70th year, looking back at a truly unique legacy. In order to celebrate this milestone anniversary, they’ve teamed up with Berlin’s Highsnobiety on a special collab. The collection centers around the Highsnobiety x Diadora N9002 and references different cultural influences that shaped the German capital during past decades.
As it already was the case with their previous collabs, Highsnobiety once again enlisted Solebox founder Hikmet Sugoer for the design process. The fellow Berlin native took inspiration from one of the city’s famous landmarks – the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church (Gedächtniskirche). Built in the 1890s and badly damaged during World War II, the ruin serves as a memorial for peace today.
But next to its historic background, the site also plays a significant role in the more recent past. During the 1990s, the square between the Memorial Church and Europa Center’s neon signs was a frequent hang out spot for Berlin’s hip-hop, breakdancing, and skate scene.
To merge these two different influences, Highsnobiety and Sugouer chose a set of classic 90s Diadora pieces for their capsule. Next to the N9002, a matching two-piece track suit, a pair of sliders and a beach towel make up the collection. The church’s Tuff stone facade and the green patina of its oxidized copper roof inspired the color palette that runs through the line-up.
For an authentic presentation, the collaborators recruited two of Berlin’s most notable hip hop legends. Fittingly, rappers Taktlo$$ and Frauenarzt rock the goods on location in the square that inspired this collection. Berlin-based photographer and close Highsnobiety collaborator Vitali Gelwich shot the lookbook which you can check out below.
