1983 was a very special year for football fans following the European Cup Winners’ Cup – ending with a once-in-a-lifetime moment for a Scottish team. Aberdeen Football Club, led by then-upcoming and now-legendary manager Alex Ferguson, stood against Real Madrid in the finals and made history on that rainy night in Sweden. In added time, the 11 Scots managed to score the winning goal and won the club’s first ever European trophy.
These days, Aberdeen sneaker store Hanon revisits this glorious moment by linking up with Diadora – a brand with their own fair share of illustrious sports history. Bringing their Squash court shoe to the table, the main inspiration for this collaboration is the St. Clair ferry on which the Aberdeen team crossed the North See off to face Real Madrid in Göteburg.
Sky blue dominates the shoes upper, while black and white accents are applied to this premium mix of luxurious pig suede, kangaroo leather tongue and heel tab, calf leather lining and ostrich leather side stripe. Of course the shoe features dual branding from both collab partners, though the defining highlight is definitely a “112” heel embossing to represent the exact time of the winning goal.
Handcrafted in Italy, only 150 pairs of the Hanon x Diadora Squash “St. Clair” were made and will be sold exclusively by the Aberdeen shop. Each pair comes in a custom box with dustbag and 3 lace sets.
