More than three decades ago, CASIO engineer Kikuo Ibe and his development team began throwing out watches from their 3rd floor window. That wasn’t because they were mad at their employer or dissatisfied with their products. They were part of “PROJECT TEAM TOUGH” – the internal task force that would develop the very first G-SHOCK watch. As a tribute to this model, the brand now launches the retro-inspired G-SHOCK DW-5600BB – the Origin.
After about 200 prototypes, the shock-resistant G-SHOCK DW-5000C saw the light of day in 1983. A girl in the park playing with a rubber ball provided the decisive idea. Ibe visualized the core of the watch inside of a rubber ball to come up with a “floating” module and the G-SHOCK DNA.
The basis for this DNA is the “Triple 10” concept. This means that the wristwatches aim at a 10-year battery life, 10-bar water resistance and 10-meter dropping shock resistance. 35 years later and with about 100.000.000 watches sold, the evolution of the G-SHOCK series of course never stood still. But the basic ideas that make these timepieces so unique still remain intact to this day.
That’s why the G-SHOCK DW-5600BB incorporates many details that remind of the original 5000C model. A sleek shape and reduced look references the past, while the cutting-edge matt black finish adds a sophisticated touch.
Technical details include an auto-calendar, alarms, a timer, 20 bar water resistance and an illuminator.
