Footpatrol and ASICS Present an Anime-Inspired GEL-Saga
Back in 1991, Japanese athletic company ASICS first introduced the GEL-Saga as a shoe specially made for mid-mileage runners. But the shoe also launched in an era where Japanese video games and anime started spilling over to the Western world. Fast forward to 2018, those distinct elements of entertainment culture now inspired the Footpatrol x ASICS GEL-Saga Anime.
To illustrate their ideas, the Footpatrol crew even came up with their own 90s-styled anime artworks. The store’s well-known gasmask logo transforms into a Gundam-like Mecha robot that is seemingly resides at the Footpatrol store. Prompted by the visit of an unsuspecting sneakerhead, the robot awakens to reveal the collaborative GEL-Saga.
The Footpatrol GEL-Saga shows a color combination of Titanium grey with Iridium Blue and Neon Pink accents reminiscent of the animated Mecha robot. Applied to an upper of synthetic suede and breathable mesh, the blue tiger stripes stand out against the muted base.
Footpatrol’s gasmask logo graces the lace loop, while co-branded prints can be spotted at the tongue and foot-bed. Clever details like neon pink lace tips that show the GEL-Saga‘s original production code TJG-487 then complete the collab.
