Known as one of the most art-driven and authentic skateboard brands, French-based Magenta Skateboards is very careful about maintaining a constant level of excellence in all its products. Driven by a “less is more” aesthetic, the young brand is even more careful about its collab partners – so when news of a DC Shoes X Magenta Skateboards collab dropped, we knew it was something special.
“We have a strong passion for the arts, which is evident in our products. We aren’t killing ourselves trying to win skateboarding,” said the two co-founders, Vivien Feil and Soy Panday.
The collection’s corner stone is the DC x Magenta Vestrey S shoe: With a perforated white leather upper featuring gray suede reinforcements on the toe and heel it’s a lofty, well-balanced sneaker in a classic look.
Under the stylish, timeless exterior it packs a DC OrthoLite footbed for comfort while the Dynamic Grip Technology (DTG) rubber outsole with three different rubber durometers offers superior grip. DC x Magenta detailing on the insoles, heels, and tongue round out a stylish vulcanized shoe.
On the apparel side, the collab consists of a highly focused selection in two colorways (black and tan) replete with carefully appointed Magenta artwork. Key pieces include six-panel hats with strapback adjuster, casual chino pants and button-up shirts featuring geometric Magenta graphics designed by pro rider and Magenta graphic mastermind Soy Panday.
Featuring DC Ambassador und Magenta-Pro Léo Valls, it’s a trippy journey through the streets of Paris at nighttime and an artistic take on the City of Lights theme. Colin Read created the illuminated graphic animations, bringing to life the illustrations by Soy Panday with a soundtrack by Vince Canger.
In the bigger picture, the collab brings together Magenta’s art-driven aesthetic with the skate footwear experience of DC Shoe Co. Ever since its founding 2010 by pro skaters Vivien Feil and Soy Panday, Magenta Skateboards has pursued its own unique graphic style. The 100% skater-owned brand is rooted in Paris and Bordeaux and backed by a strong pro team.
Founded in 1994 by Ken Block and Damon Way, DC Shoes emerged as a culture-defining force in mid-1990s skateboarding. Today, DC has evolved into a lifestyle brand offering footwear and apparel collections with a strong footing in skate and street culture.
Since 2016, co-founder Damon Way (brother of skateboard icon Danny Way) has been back on board at DC Shoes after an eight-year hiatus. Way has played an active role in a strong push to align the brand’s skateboard culture focus, and the DC Shoes X Magenta Skateboards Collab reflects this core ethos.
After release parties at The Hub in Paris and Stuttgart’s Arrow and Beast skate shop, the DC Shoes X Magenta Skateboards Collab is now available at select skateboard retailers worldwide. Visit the official DC Shoes website to find a participating store near you.
