To mark the 10-year anniversary of the original “Red Lobster” Dunk, the Boston store pays homage to their inaugural SB projects. Combining the Red and Blue versions, the latest version now appears in a striking purple colorway. But what’s the inspiration behind that tone? “I’ve probably researched lobsters more than Jacques Cousteau himself,” says Concepts creative director Deon Point. “There’s versions in color variations, depending on the depth of how far a lobster can go below sea level. And, theoretically, there are lobsters in colors that haven’t been found yet.”
But even though the shoe features a new color, it still remains authentic to key design features of the 2008 version. Point elaborates in the importance of SB Dunks and the original CONCEPTS collab: “In terms of classics, the Dunk is amongst the elites. The OG SB in particular, has a devout following, so we opted for the original tooling. We even forewent CONCEPTS branding on the padded tongue, staying true to our first collaboration. I think the details separate it from the rest. The metallic swoosh, metallic speckle, picnic lining, and rubber brands, have all become iconic over the years.”
The shoe features the classic Nike Dunk SB padded tongue, a metallic Swoosh, metallic speckle-printed uppers and a picnic table print sockliner. It also comes with three sets of shoelaces and two sets of lobster claw rubber bands. The sneakers arrive in a specially designed CONCEPTS box and are available in Men’s U.S. Sizes 4-12, 13, 14, 15.
