UK grime artist Skepta’s third collaboration with Nike is well known by now. Paying tribute to the city of New York, the Air Max Delux SK features lots of details that connect the dots in Skepta’s career, which turned a local sound from London into a global phenomenon.
The reinterpretation of the 1999 Air Max materializes the artist’s connection to the city, through details like the “NEVER SLEEP ON TOUR” on the inside or the black-and-white static pattern on the upper that is reminiscent of the VHS aesthetic of the award-winning video “That’s Not Me”. In a further nod to this song, the time and date “12:05 PM JUNE 08 2014” is written on the lateral toe – the time of the original release.
Nike has now officially confirmed how to cop the Nike Air Max SK: It will be available on September 8 in the SNEAKRS App and at select retailers in Europe.
