10 of the best sneakers of May 2018
A lot of people almost forgot about this missing piece from Virgil Abloh’s “THE TEN” collection. But after the surprise drop in May 2018, the hype was on again. And just like goold old times (a.k.a. fall of last year), most people didn’t get a pair of course.
After the “Safari” and “Elephant” retros, Nike Sportswear spoiled Air Max 1 fans with another long-awaited re-release. The “Curry” AM1 first launched back in 2003 and is a fan favorite 15 years later. A perfect pair for anyone who’s big on classic suede-and-mesh runners.
It almost seems like the atmos guys set up their own field office at the Nike headquarters by the way they’re cranking out Swoosh collabs lately. The “WE LOVE NIKE” pack sees three iterations of the Air Max 1, 90 and 95 that pay homage to all the dedicated Nike fans.
First released in 2014, the Temper Run takes inspiration from 90’s runners and returned in this yellow colorway in May. This far, the shoes were only available at the adidas Originals store in Shoreditch, London though, so there might still be a wider release in the future.
Ever since the Air Max 1/97 SW, hybrids are all the rage. Now UK grime artist Skepta also combined two Air Max models for his second Nike collab. On top of that, the BW/97 features mismatched color accents in red and blue to reference France and the city of Paris.
With the introduction of the adidas Atric collection, the brand with the Three Stripes combines functionality and retro design. The F/22 Primeknit outdoor silhouette takes design cues from the adidas archives, most notably the EQT line and 2001’s Water Moccasin model.
As a part of the “Best Hand in the Game”, the “Yellow Ochre” colorway is a tribute to MJ’s five MVP awards. Next to black, white and dark yellow upper, the shoe also features allusions to gambling with card game graphics on the insoles.
Every city is unique – but at nightfall, they all share a common moment. For their KangaROOS collab, the folks from Polish sneaker store Worldbox transferred a nightly bird’s eye view from their hometown of Warsaw onto this premium “Made in Germany” Coil-R1.
As part of the ongoing celebrations of the Suede’s 50th anniversary, PUMA teams up with fellow German label MCM for a luxurious throwback collab. Each of the three colorways is made in Italy and sports the MCM logo across the durable Visetos upper material.
Since more than decades now, the Air Jordan 11 is the go-to-shoe for every b-ball-loving sneakerhead who just can’t bring himself to wearing dress shoes for formal occassions. And with the “Cap and Gown” 11s, Jordan Brand finally acknowledges those who attend weddings, proms and graduation partys with patent leather Js on their feet.
