Earlier this year, Mizuno reissued their Sky Medal silhouette both in its OG colorways and as a Patta collab. Now the shoe again receives the Kazoku treatment as the BEAMS x Mizuno Sky Medal TR sees the brand team up with a fellow Japanese retailer.
Hailing from Tokyo’s famous Harajuku district, BEAMS is one of the leading clothing and interoir goods chains in Japan. With a history that traces all the way back to 1976, the retailer witnessed the original run of the Sky Medal during the 90s first hand. That’s why this collab pays homage to the classic running style of that era.
On the upper, the shoe features a combination of black mesh and smooth leather overlays in white. Turquose accents appear on the lining, outsole and lateral Mizuno logo, while en embroidered sun logo and a co-branded orange insole add further highlights. The Kanji character “美” on the lower tongue represents the first character in Mizuno’s full Japanese name. A debossed BEAMS logo on the quarter then finalizes the design.
But next to the obvious outside appearance, this Sky Medal TR collab also celebrates the silhouette’s groundbreaking Transtab technology. As an advancement of the Transpower cushioning, Transtab transforms heel and midfoot impact into explosive running power.
