For way too long, some of the finest Air Jordans were “guys first” releases – meaning that they had a primarely male customer base in mind. Sure, the most popular retros also drop in GS sizes on the regular. But with the UNC To Chicago, Nike presents an exclusive women’s colorway on the Air Jordan 1 High OG.
Luckily enough, this design doesn’t use the awful “shrink it and pink it” formula. On the contrary: ladies get treated with a dedicated sneaker that pays homage to Michael Jordan‘s path from College sensation to larger-than-life basketball phenomenon. Featuring a black tumbled leather base, the color accents highlight the two formative career stages of #23. The collar and Swoosh logo in Powder Blue allude to MJ’s Alma Mater, the University of North Carolina. The toebox and outsole then use Gym Red as a contrast color – and as a representation of the Chicago Bulls of course. In addition, both tones then appear in the insoles as one is blue on the other one red.

Next to Michael Jordan, the University of North Carolina has a number of other notable alumni. Among them are fellow NBA players Vince Carter and James Worthy as well as Donald Trump’s former National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster and “The Hangover” star Ken Jeong.
