Excitement for the Tour de France bicycle race is kicking into high gear and German sneaker store Afew is joining forces with Le Coq Sportif for a special drop: This year, the race for the first time will start in Afew’s home town, Dusseldorf, and the “Grand Départ” collection will honor the historic occasion with limited edition hats, jerseys, socks, and an ultra-rare sneaker collab.
The shoe in the Afew x Le Coq Sportif “Grand Départ” collection is the R1000 model, which is executed in premium materialization in a limited 100 pairs drop entirely made in France.
The R1000’s upper is crafted from pigskin leather, while the toebox is rendered in soft nubuck for a soft touch. For a premium finish, the shoes are delivered in a special wooden box – featuring the Dusseldorf coat of arms next to French and German flag artwork – with two pairs of extra laces per shoe.
So far, Afew has only shared teaser pics of the shoes, but what we can already see is a black upper on a white sole with red, blue and white accents throughout. You can also catch glimpses of the shoe in the Eighties style launch video for the drop:
The Afew x Le Coq Sportif R1000 “Grand Départ” is listed with a EUR 249.95 price tag will release on July 1, 2017 with 50 pairs available in-store and 50 pairs online, with a raffle to qualify for purchase.
Accompanying the footwear, Afew and Le Coq Sportif created a limited edition jersey featuring the coat of arms of Dusseldorf in a black-on-black colorway, accompanied by socks and a Tour de France racing hat.
