adidas ZX is the common demoninator between running enthusiasts and sneakerheads alike. First introduced in 1984, the world-famous shoe series brought us classic after classic throught the years. For 2020, the German brand once again puts the spotlight on its ZX greats.
In 2008, the A-ZX collection released for the first time to pay homage to the ZX back catalog. Now the celebration starts again. Together with several partners, adidas drops 26 ZX sneakers in the months to come. Why 26 sneakers though? Well, it’s pretty simple: There’s one for every letter in the alphabet. And behind every letter, we’re in for either a beloved archive model or a special collab with partners like lifestyle or food industry brands as well as craftspeople.
The first drop in line is for R – as in “Retro”. That’s why the Three Stripes brand starts things off with the classic of classics: the ZX 1000C. Returning in its “Cream White / Core Black / Chalk White” colorway, the sneaker combines synthetic suede and nylon on the upper. Light blue accents and a lime green color pop on the lace tag bring back all th greatness that made this shoe a hit three decades ago.
DID YOU KNOW?
As Jacques Chassaing – who originated the ZX line together with Markus Thaler – revealed in a 2018 interview with Footpatrol, a motorbike inspired the sneaker series. When Kawasaki launched their ZX500, the two designers translated the idea of using different tires for different surfaces to their performance runners.
