With the ZX 4000 4D, the Three Stripes brand expertly managed to merge retro inspirations with forward-thinking technology. Presenting yet another new colorway on the silhouette, adidas now makes the ZX connection as apparant as possible. The adidas ZX 4000 4D I WANT I CAN pays homage to the famous slogan that accompanied the original ZX launch back in the 80s.
While obvious innuendos to the line already appeared one previous colorways, the allusions are all but subtle on this one. The words “I WANT” adorn the outer sides of the right shoe in bright red, as the left sneaker features the “I CAN” response in blue. Both shoes use a grey Primeknit base that sits atop the signature Ash Green 4D sole unit. Color accents on the heels as well as the insoles contrast the tones of the bold letters, while Trefoil tongue tags finalize the design on a classic note.
DID YOU KNOW?
The 1980s “I WANT I CAN” campaign featured a split design image that showed an athlete on the upper and a ZX sneaker on the lower half. The two highlight colors of blue and red on this ZX 4000 4D also appeared as the background tones in a 1989 campaign with said layout. And the sneaker shown in this ad was none other than the widely celebrated Torsion ZX 8000 C “Aqua”.
