Reebok and adidas announced probably the rarest type of collaboration: a joint project by two competing sportswear brands. For the adidas x Reebok Instapump Fury BOOST, the two now combined an OG silhouette with top notch contemporary technology.
Even though adidas actually acquired Reebok as a subsidary in 2006, both brands never worked together ever since then. Taking the Instapump Fury as a base, this collab adds a signifacant update to the classic silhouette. Steven Smith designed the shoe back in 1994 and it cemented its status as one of the most memorable and distinct sneakers ever. adidas on the other hand is one of the trailblazers in terms of cushioning technology for quite a few years now. And while 4D-printed midsoles are the latest innovation from the German athletic gear giant, BOOST still remains a favorite for athletes and sneakerheads alike. Put those pieces together and you got yourself the new Instapump Fury BOOST – a reimagined sneaker culture staple.
Starting on October 2019, the model releases in five different colorways in three packs. First up, the “Prototype” uses the original colors of Classic White, Royal Blue and Solar Orange from Steven Smith’s first Instapump Fury Sample. As the name implies, the “OG Meets OG Pack” features two variants that pay homage to the OG styles of both the Instapump Fury and UltraBOOST. Last but not least, the “Black & White” pack includes two monochromatic versions with a gum outsole.
DID YOU KNOW?
adidas and fellow German company BASF, the largest chemical producer in the world, developed the BOOST midsole material. For the characteristic qualities, solid granular material (TPU) is literally blown up and turned into thousands of small energy capsules. A BOOST midsole contains around 2500 of those capsules.
