It was back in the 1983 when adidas first presented its adicolor apparel line, which stood out with its playful and lively approach on sportswear. The brand launched pairs of all-white sneakers that were sold along with felt-tip pens to let people apply this kind of artistic freedom to their shoes themselves. The concept then reappeared in 2006 for the Color Series, a collaboration with several creatives from around the world who designed unique pieces around a specific color. All of these previous collections had an influence on the return of adicolor as the brand with the Three Stripes presents their SS18 range.
Dipped in the four primary tones known as Bluebird, Fairway Green, Scarlett Red and Sun Yellow, the color palette from 1983’s adicolor release return to the stage. But color is not only used for mere design purposes here. It also represents a positive, humorous attitude that is perfectly captured in the tongue-in-cheeck campaign images by photographer Charlie Engman and director David Lane. This approach also highlight adicolor’s emphasis on gender-neutrality and diversity.
The SS18 collection is based on athletic Three Stripes styles that were established during past decades from the 1970s to the 90s. Key pieces like track suits, tees, shorts and sweats are reimagined with a modernized fits and innovative fabrics. Classic trefoil logos reference the collection’s retro inspirations and are prominently placed on the pieces that bridge the gap between sports and street culture.
