adidas Introduces the Retro-Inspired Futurepacer
A good five months into 2018, it’s safe to say that adidas doesn’t take the easy route this year. Instead of playing it safe and just cranking out retro after retro, the Geman brand keeps launching new interesting models like the Kamanda or Deerupt. And now the latest addition to the 2018 line-up is the adidas Futurepacer.
Attentive adi heads probably already guessed it just by hearing the name. Of course the Futurepacer draws influence from 1984’s Micropacer. The archive Three Stripes model stood out with its built-in LCD microcomputer which allowed athletes to track their performance with functions like a stop watch, a step counter or a calorie meter.
The Futurepacer references the OG Micropacer’s upper and adds contemporary design accents like reflective overlays. Further down, this silhouetten then receives a dose of NMD DNA. The NMD itself was inspired by the Micropacer, now the model lends its BOOST cushioning and block inserts to the next shoe in line.
To not distract from the sneaker’s unique construction, the Futurepacer releases in a subtle “Grey One” colorway. You can catch a glimpse of that one below and also check out the little tongue pocket which replaces the microcomputer.
