In recent years, South Korea became home to an evolving streetwear scene, nurtured by dedicated retailers like Kasina. Originally established in the country’s second largest city of Busan back in 1997, the retailer now operates several stores across South Korea and also made a name for itself among style-savvy sneakerheads from all around the world. Celebrating their 20th anniversary, Kasina now once again linked up with adidas to showcase their unmistakable design philosophy.
One of the unique characteristics notable throughout all of South Korea’s arts and crafts is the dynamic interplay of tradition and innovation. This approach also shaped the upcoming collaboration by Kasina and adidas, as the main inspiration was drawn from a traditional form of footwear worn by Korean noblemen for several centuries. These ‘Taesahae’ are made from black and white leather with exposed stitching and represent handcrafted elegance. With the legendary adidas Superstar as a basis, Kasina now adds a luxurious touch to this street culture staple.
Dressed in a subtle bone white colorway, sophisticated nubuck leather was not only used on the upper but also on the shelltoe. In keeping with the plain and simple look, the usual Three Stripes branding on the sidewalls is reduced to tonal stitchings. A welted leather band surrounds the upper and borders the gum sole unit, which features the ‘Taesahae’-inspired visible seam. As a link to current times, state-of-the-art adidas technology is provided by internal BOOST cushioning which is partially exposed on the shoe’s inner sides. Pearl eyelets on the double-branded tongue labels serve as lush details on the silhouette.
