After fully embracing coarse looks on silhouettes like the Prophere or the Kamanga, adidas now returns to filigree forms. The adidas Deerupt is the latest Three Stripes sneaker to embody the credo of the past empowering the future.
For a quick sneaker knowledge update ahead of the release, we’ve compiled 5 background facts you need to know about the adidas Deerupt – here you go.

1. The Origins of the Web

The striking grid pattern that extends accross the whole silhouette is called “Dellinger Web”. It was invented by 5.000 meters runner and three-time Olympian William Dellinger and used as a midsole reinforcement technology. The nylon web absorbs impact shock gently and distributes it over the entire midsole – effectly also working as a form of energy return system for runners.

2. adidas Archives

In 1980, Dellinger Web was first used on the adidas Marathon and later found its way onto well-known models like the adidas Oregon, the adidas Waterproof or several models from the ZX line. The technology was a very popular feat that was used quite frequently on adidas running sneakers throughout the 1980s.

3. Deerupt the Grid

On the adidas Deerupt, the web pattern assumes a modern, minimalistic aesthetic that is oriented towards inspirations like urban planning, architecture and natural phenomenons. Taking up on the disruptive approach that’s signature to recent adidas releases, the Deerupt exaggerates the rational grid design for a fashion-forward look.

4. Comfort is King
