Everybody loves stompin’ in their Air Force 1s, even when the weather gets nasty. Taking all-conditions performance to the next level, NikeLab continues the collaboration with technical outdoor brand Acronym. The resulting NikeLab AF1 Downtown x Acronym high top blends classic Air Force 1 design features and the Germany-based company’s innovative tech into a convincing package.
Acronym co-founder Errolson Hugh injected the AF1 Downtown with his company’s innovative textiles. The shoe extends via an extra-high soft shell collar for water protection, secured by a German-made quick release fastener reminiscent of a snowboard binding. Equally functional, the shoe’s high collar can be conveniently opened via an 8mm brass zipper for easy entry, and folds over to tuck in the wearer’s pants (a concept inspired by military uniforms).
The AF1 Downtown is available in three colorways and reflects meticulous attention to detail: Loaded with a Nike Air unit in the heel, it features stitch detailing on the Swoosh, an ACR-embossed heel section, and a co-branded leather tags on the collar, embossed with the words SWOOSH, ACRONYM, DAF1-ACR and GERMAN VENEERING. The all-black version sits on a translucent outsole, while the white-on-black AF 1 features a white Swoosh and outsole for contrast.
The NikeLab AF1 Downtown x Acronym is already sold out at Acronym and may still be available at NikeLab locations in limited quantities. All images via Acronym.
